Freedom Tech Hackathon
Join us for our first SATS’N’HACKS Freedom Tech Hackathon — we welcome projects built on Bitcoin, Lightning, Nostr and beyond to compete for a ₿2.1M sats prize pool.
We believe in creating a sense of belonging for all by working together to build a culture of equality so everyone can perform at their best, advance, and thrive. This is an opportunity for us to have open, honest, and meaningful conversations to advance the adoption of Freedom Technology.
Our culture of equality enables us to attract, develop, inspire and reward top talent in and outside the space. It also creates an environment that unleashes creative innovation, enabling people to perform at their very best and develop better solutions for our world.

Hack Jury

Evaluation Criteria
All projects will be evaluated and scored on the following criteria:
0). 🫂 Community feedback
All the projects will need to be listed on our Geyser grant page where the community will be able to zap, leave feedback and upvote.
1). 🎯 Value Proposition
Does the project have a product market fit? Does it provide value to the bitcoin ecosystem and beyond?
2). 🚨 Innovation
Is it something we’ve seen before or does it bring something new and exciting to bitcoin and beyond?
3). ⚡️ Integration & Scalability
Have they used bitcoin/lightning/nostr? If so, how many features? How well will this product scale for either local or global adoption?
4). 👁️ Transparency (#BuildInPublic)
Encouraging makers to #BuildInPublic. Has the project’s team been transparent throughout their product design and development journey?
5). ✅ Execution
Makers should focus on attention to detail. How well has the project been executed?
6). 🍒 Design
Design can separate the good from the bad. Taking into account both UI and UX, how well has the application or feature been designed?
7). 💥 Impact
One of the most important aspects is how and how much your idea will improve the users you design it for, the community around and why not, the entire world. Start small, think Big!
8). 🔥 Je ne sais quoi
Does the project have that extra flavor of hotness or coolness? Does it raise the bar? How?

HOW IT WILL WORK
- Participate IRL or remotely
We will have a dedicated space, open non-stop for 3 days, to support you to concentrate and build on your demo and presentation. During the three days, we invite you to connect with the community around, get inspired by art, and help you to take care of your health. Enjoy a massage, a session of infrared light, and refresh not just your mind but your entire body with an ice bath session.
Around the venue you’ll also find plenty of local Thai restaurants… Our aim is to provide you with a comfortable environment you can enjoy and get most out of it for the benefits of your team and success of the project. If you cannot make it IRL, you’re gonna miss all this, but you’ll be still able to submit your idea.
2. Make sure your project is on Geyser
You’ll also be required to have a Geyser.fund page for your project and apply to escalate the online leaderboard, where the community will be able to up-zap-vote your project and bring your team to the podium. And this will be the first step of your #BuildInPublic strategy.
3. Build it in Public
Sharing stories publicly, makers can transparently document their project’s ideas, design, development, and management processes with #SatsNhacks on socials. This will help other makers learn from one another, decreasing essential onboarding and learning time for others, whilst inspiring more great freedom tech apps to be built and innovated on Bitcoin and Nostr.
4. Present the Project
Bringing and sharing ideas will be not enough, you need to build a prototype, an MVE (minimum viable experiment) to validate your idea. You’ll have a selected group of people you can ask questions and test your product with. Make the best use of it, they will love to contribute to your success. If you participate remotely, make sure you submit a video or presentation of your project.
The last day of the event, you’ll be required to present your project in a 5-10 min presentation in front of the audience and jury at 5PM. Make sure you surprise everyone! The judges will evaluate the community feedback received until that time through Geyser Grant and narrow it down to the top three finalists that will be announced on the same day before dinner time.
Requirements
- You must be able to make a prototype, digital or physical. You are free to use the tools you want: from code to design, from hardware to crafts and anything you think will fit in between.
- Registration and participation to the SATS’N’FACTS Unconference is required.
- Make sure to submit your idea before buying a ticket.
- You can participate solo or bring all your team members, one ticket brings all (your team) in.
